Want to get saving? - we can help!

Car-Free Tourism Incentive

We encourage you to consider car-free tourism - in fact we give you incentives and opportunities to use eco-friendly and sustainable products in the properties for yourself.

We live right in the city centre and hardly use our cars - it is quicker to walk, use the bus or use delivery services - staying in a city centre cottage or apartment is your chance to try this for yourself.

Whenever possible and appropriate we offer you free transport to and from the cottages & apartments - from the local public transport of train and bus networks.

There are Links to bus and train timetables & the Bikeabout bicycle loan service.

We actively promote activities that are not reliant on the private motor car, such as cycling and walking by providing cycle-friendly and walker-friendly facilities for you and our staff along with information on car-free activities e.g. walking and cycling routes and maps.

Local Produce Incentive

Take a look at Hampshire Fare see where you can purchase local produce subscribe to the newsletter - do your bit to reduce food miles and reduce pollution.

If you are staying when Winchester Farmers’ Market, Hampshire Food Festival and the Alresford Watercress Festival are taking place you must go!

The Welcome Packs and Household Essentials we provide for our guests in each of our cottages and apartments are high-quality distinctive, free-range, free trade, organic or eco friendly wherever possible.

Energy Efficiency

Almost half of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions come from energy we use every day – at home and when we travel. We take little steps each day to help you reduce your energy consumption whilst you stay at the properties.

  • We have installed energy-saving light bulbs for you to use - all you need to do is switch off the lights and electrical equipment if on standby when you don't need them.
  • You can dry your laundry naturally outdoors on the retractable washing lines in the cottages gardens - and there are line dyrer/airers in the apartments for you to use.
  •
Your towels and bedlinen are washed and dried naturally either by our staff or our eco-friendly laundry service.
  •
We purchase energy-saving equipment when replacing appliances.

We are continuing to take slightly larger steps every year to lower your energy consumption without lowering your comfort whilst you enjoy your stay at the properties.

  • Conserve heat including
    • double glazing
    • cavity wall
    • loft insulation

  • You can adjust the cottage or apartment temperature via
    • central thermostat
    • individual radiators

Recycling and Resource Use

Recycling bins

Are provided for your use, so you can separate out your rubbish for recycling reducing the amount that ends up in landfill a factor which contributes towards climate change.

  • Biodegradable waste generates methane, a powerful greenhouse gas
  •
Reduce the energy consumed in making new products, which are later disposed of
