For example, in 2003 over 45 million trips included short walks and 37 million included long walks or hikes.

Facilities and Services:
A secure facility with a heat source is available for drying outdoor clothing and footwear
Access to facilities with water supply for cleaning boots and outdoor clothing
Boot scrapes are available.
The water supply is clearly labelled separate to the drinking water
First Aid kit is provided and located in each cottage and apartment
Clothes washing facilities, laundry service and details of nearest launderette facility are provided.
Food Arrangements:
Facilities to make hot drinks throughout the day are available
Details and directions for the nearest food shop are provided and easily accessible
Pre-ordering of basic grocery items prior to arrival for guests arriving without a car is available on request
Information Provision:
The following information is displayed in the Property Information Folder (Bedroom Browser) in each property and is readily accessible.
Details of nearest doctor, dentist, hospital, and all night chemist and vets (as pets can be accepted by arrangement).
Maps and books are available for reference on walking in the area/details of local and regional walking routes and organisations.
Information on local public transport or contact details are provided.
Details of baggage transfer and taxi companies operating locally.
Weather information for the area:- telephone numbers that can be called for the latest information by guests are provided on request
Information on local attractions, events and local tourist information centre number and directions are provided.

nformation is provided on location and opening times of nearest shops, including directions.- Details of nearest bank/cash machine, public telephone, post office, post box and outdoor equipment shops are provided
- Details for contacting rescue services and what information these services will require - 999 phone number - 112 from a mobile phone are provided

- Details of local restaurants and pubs offering food.
- Information on other businesses participating in the Walkers Welcome scheme.
- Group bookings are taken, information is available for groups on storage facilities,
dining facilities/options, and pre arrival information can be provided if required.
